Indonesia has set the construction of earthquake resistant buildings through the Act, Regulation, and Local Regulations. It is intended to minimize the number of casualties and property damage when an earthquake, such as Sumatra and Aceh earthquake that occurred on Wednesday (11/4).
On March 2011, National Geographic Indonesia has an article about Spider’s Nest Construction(KSLL) which has proven its quality during the earthquake in Aceh in 2004 and the earthquake in Padang in 2009. Aceh and Padang KSLL have applied for multi-storey buildings and are not stratified. Earthquake-friendly foundation which has received numerous awards are also used for airport and road construction.
Earthquake-prone buildings does not mean anti-destruction. According Agoes Widjanarko, Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works building located at the epicenter, as strong as any construction, would be damaged. “It’s just that the damage would not be severe, so that the occupants in the building can still save themselves for protection,” he said.
